Man Charged for Aiming Laser at Air 1 Helicopter

A Buffalo resident was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly aiming a laser pointer at the Erie County Sheriff's Office Air 1 helicopter, as reported by the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

The incident took place shortly after midnight, with 40-year-old Derwin Heath accused of shining a blue laser at the helicopter while it hovered over the intersection of Bailey Avenue and Wecker Street. The helicopter crew was able to trace the source of the laser to a location on Navel Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene, Buffalo Police quickly took Heath into custody, with the Erie County Sheriff's Office assisting in the arrest.

Heath now faces charges of second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree directing a laser at an aircraft, highlighting the serious nature of the offense.
